WRI Seminar and Council 2007 in Israel

The annual WRI seminar and Council meeting will take place in Israel in 2007,from 23-26 August. The theme of the seminar will be on militarism and gender. Please contact the WRI Office if you are interested in participating, and want to be kept informed.

International Conscientious Objectors' Day 2007 will focus on the situation of conscientious objection in Colombia.

The programme includes the following:

  • An integration activity on the 11th of may between all international and national delegates
  • An antimilitarist concert on the 12th of May
  • A meeting of the National Assembly of CO and the international delegates the 13th and 14th of May to evaluate and programm the strategies of the international solidarity network and to prepare the nonv

15 May - International Conscientious Objectors' Day

International Conscientious Objectors' Day 2007 will focus on the situation of conscientious objection in Colombia. Already in April 2007, several groups of Colombian objectors will tour Western Europe to help to build and strengthen a support network for Colombian objectors. The central activities for International Conscientious Objectors' Day will take place in Medellin, Colombia, around 15 May 2007.

What does it mean to be a WRI Council member?

The Council consists of section representatives, internationally elected Council members, and the Chair and Treasurer qua office - all these are referred to as Council members.

Council meetings:

Council meetings are attended Council members, observers from Associates, and other observers. Council is a place for administrative business such as review of finances and the Annual Report from Exec and staff, political discussion, priority setting, and practical planning.

Upcoming elections: Triennial Business Meeting 2006

Next year the terms for WRI's Chair and internationally elected Council members end. This letter gives information on nominations for the Chair and Council candidates, and the election procedure.

Peace in North-East Asia

War Resisters' International worked together with South Korean partner organisations for an international seminar on peace in North-East Asia, held at the Bongdo Centre outside Seoul in June 2005. The seminar brought together peace activists and peace researchers from North-East Asia and all over the world, to discuss the present threats to peace in North-East Asia, and possible peace movement responses, based on War Resisters' International's more than 80 years of experience with nonviolence.

Introduction

War Resisters' International, the international network of pacifist organisations with 80 affiliates in 40 countries, founded in 1921, is cooperating with South Korean partner organisations for an international seminar on Peace in North-East Asia, to be held in South Korea in June 2005.

WRI Seminar 2005 in South Korea

In cooperation with several partner organisations from South Korea, War Resisters' International is preparing for its 2005 seminar and Council meeting, which will take place near Seoul at the end of June / beginning of July 2005. The theme of the seminar will be "Peace in North-East Asia".
